The Police (SQ), firemen, the SPA des Cantons and social services visited a small house on Thursday, located on Jetté road in Dunham. At least 14 dogs and cats were found and seized by the SPA, including a cat’s carcase.
It was multiple complaints from neighbours that brought on this seizure. According to the SPA’s Facebook page, the volunteers seized three puppies, a female dog, four cats and five dying kittens. A cat’s carcase was also found in the house.
Questioned about this intervention, the general director of the municipality, Pierre Loiselle, said that Dunham has intervened to prevent the situation from deteriorating. “We had multiple complaints from neighbours. Today’s operation seems to be going well. There was a certain quantity of animals. It wasn’t a dozen, but a little bit too many. We intervened before the problem got out of control”, he said.
She’s a person with mental health. “We started with social services. At first, the woman was reluctant, but she accepted.” he added. The resident should therefore be getting help from the different local organisations, such as the CLSC.
“We saved the life of a woman and the animals. We all did our job. It’s a good team work. We made a difference in her life. That was the goal”, says Carl Girard, general director of the SPA des Cantons, who refused to say more about the intervention.
As for the animals, they must be examined by vets at the SPA and they will have to be treated, if needed. While writing these lines, it was impossible to know the animals state of health. It was also too early to know if they will be going up for adoption.
