A dog has been seized by police after a smaller dog was decapitated in an attack which occurred in front of young children in Warrington.

The dog responsible for the fatal attack on Saturday is being examined by Cheshire Police to identify the breed.

The incident was reported at 16:40 BST, after a Pomeranian dog called Elvis was attacked in a garden on Kingsway South and died of its injuries.

The dog – believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier – attacked Elvis, a tiny Pomeranian dog, so violently that the nine-year-old was decapitated.

The woman with the dog said “It’s not his fault, he’s only a baby” after the incident and fled, but was captured on camera by a witness. The dog has now been tracked down.

Owner Gemma Antell, a charity worker, published the picture online. She wrote: “I need your help. Our little dog Elvis was brutally killed by another dog. The dog literally ripped his head off.

“Elvis was attacked in his own garden.

“[The other dog] was on the lead whole time. It dragged her in the garden, she couldn’t control it.”
