It was a year ago today that 60 dogs were rescued from a suspected dog fighting ring in Cheatham County. It was believed to be the largest in Tennessee history.
On this Thanksgiving Day, almost all of those dogs are spending their first Thanksgiving in loving homes.
Winnie was one of the dogs rescued.
“She was chained to a dog house and had to endure,” said Ronnie Haslip, who owns Winnie now.
Winnie was one of 60 dogs rescued from a property on Buckeye Road in Ashland City.
Officials with Animal Rescue Corps, the international non-profit group, said then many of the dogs didn’t have access to food or water and all needed medical attention, including Winnie, who may have been used for fighting and breeding.
